Whether you are planning a wedding, a family session, headshots, or a party, booking a photographer on ShutterMatch follows the same simple path: find someone whose work you love, talk through the details, accept their offer, and pay securely online.

Here is how each step works.

1. Search and filter

Start on Browse Photographers. You can combine several filters:

  • Category: Tap Wedding, Portrait, Event, Lifestyle, Commercial, Family, or Graduation.
  • Keyword: Search by a photographer's name or by what you need, like "headshots", "newborn", or "engagement". Keyword search looks at photographers' bios and service descriptions, so specific words work well.
  • Location and distance: Enter a city and choose how far you are willing to go, from 5 to 100 miles.
  • Sort: Order results by Top Rated, Newest, Price (low to high or high to low), or Nearest once you have entered a location.

You can also start from a category page, such as Wedding Photography, Portrait Photography, or Event Photography.

Tip: If you are not seeing many results, widen the distance or try a broader keyword.

2. Read the profile closely

Open a few profiles that catch your eye. Each one shows:

  • About: The photographer's bio — what they shoot, where they work, and their style.
  • Featured Work: The pieces the photographer is proudest of.
  • Portfolio: Their full body of work. Many photographers organize it into albums, so you can jump straight to the kind of shoot you are planning.
  • Reviews: Only clients who booked through ShutterMatch can leave a review, so every one comes from a real booking.
  • Services and starting prices: What they offer and where their pricing starts. These are starting rates — your exact price comes in a personalized offer.
  • Instagram and website links: More of their work, if they have added them.

Look for a portfolio with shoots similar to yours and a style that stays consistent from photo to photo. Not sure what to look for? Read How to Choose the Right Photographer for Your Event.

3. Message to book

When you find a photographer you like, tap Message to Book. You will need to log in or create a free account first.

Your first message gets you a faster, more accurate quote when it includes:

  • The type of shoot or event
  • Your date, start time, and how long you need coverage
  • The location
  • How many people will be photographed
  • The look you want — you can attach inspiration photos
  • Your budget, if you have one in mind

It is fine to message a few photographers and compare. Keep your conversations on ShutterMatch so every detail is in one place.

4. Review and accept the booking offer

The photographer will send you a booking offer with the event type, start and end time, location, price, and notes about what is included.

Read it carefully. If something is not right — the hours, the number of photos, the delivery date — reply in the conversation and ask for an updated offer before accepting.

When you are happy, open the offer and tap Accept & Pay. If it is not a fit, tap Decline.

5. Pay securely

Payment is handled by Stripe, so your card details are never shared with the photographer.

Your total is the photographer's price plus the standard card processing fee (about 2.9% + $0.30). ShutterMatch does not add a separate booking fee for clients, and you will see the full total before you pay. A receipt is available from your booking page afterward.

6. Enjoy your session and get your photos

Use the conversation to confirm final details before the day. After the shoot, your photographer uploads your finished photos to your booking's gallery, where you can view and download them.

You can find all of your bookings anytime in your dashboard.

7. Leave a review

Once you have paid, you can leave a star rating and review from your booking page. Honest reviews help other clients choose — and help great photographers get discovered.
